Infectious Diseases and immunology is another key field at CRCHUQ. Researchers conduct basic as well as clinical and applied research on the mechanisms underpinning the onset and development of microbial infections and the resulting immune response. The ultimate goal is to achieve more effective control of infectious diseases and improved understanding of cellular and molecular immune and inflammation mechanisms involved in inflammation diseases and antimicrobial host defenses. Another is to develop new, rapid diagnostic tests and preventive and therapeutic treatments for infectious, inflammatory, and rheumatismal diseases. One research unit is also studying the development of immunological tolerance to organ and cell grafts.

The main goal of this group’s research is to promote the transfer of biomedical knowledge to clinical practice. Researchers use cutting-edge technology such as DNA and protein biochips, microfluids and nanotechnology, bioinformatics, mass spectrometry, and real-time confocal microscopy.
